| Class format: | The class will meet once a week for an hour and a quarter and will be conducted as a reading group/seminar. Each week students will read a book chapter or review article and a journal article, and students will submit a short written summary of the reading. The first half of the semester will cover general background in bacterial pathogenesis. Students will be assigned to present highlights of the reading and lead discussion during class. For the second half of the semester, each student will select a specific bacterial disease and prepare a 30-min presentation on the pathogenic mechanisms associated with that disease.
