This is an area in the southern part of the park called Mineral King.  It's 23 miles of one lane twisty switchbacks going from ~800' to 8,000' in elevation.  It is a wild road to drive.  The night we drove in, we drove through a controlled burn.  It was quite an experience to drive thru a forest fire at 3 am.  All was dark except for the burning trees and brush fires.   The smoke was thick with a sheer drop to one side and a fire to the other.  But we stayed the course and had a great time camping.  Enjoy!

Our first campsite, we pitched the tent in sheer darkness so this is what we awoke to.

Just to give you an idea of the size of the pine trees!

Batjet away!

Aren't they beautiful!
