Requesting a Recommendation
I am happy to write letters of recommendation for students, but if you want to effective response from me and letter to the reviewer, I request the following procedures
- Please arrange an inperson meeting with me before making the request.
- Bring the following resources to the meeting:
- Hardcopy of your Unofficial Transscripts (Unless you are my advisee) and
- A paragraph summarizing the program that you are applying
- After our meeting please follow up in the following ways:
- Send me the link/email address that the recommendation is to be submitted;
- Send an email with a bulleted list of skills and knowledge that makes you qualified for the position;
- If a hardcopy is require, please give me a self-address, postage paid envelope; and /li>
- Send me a reminder of the deadline: 2 weeks, 1 week, and 2 days before the deadline or until the recommendation has been submitted.
This is, of course, the best case scenario, but sometimes we discover programs that don't allow us to response in a timely fashion. I am happy to accommodate if you are unable to follow these guidelines, but I appreciate every attempt you can make to meet the intent.
